OBAN AS A UNIVERSITY TOWN
#LoveLearningLoveOban
Why?
To give school leavers more choice about their futures and make Oban as attractive a study option as other towns and cities
To attract more students to come to Oban, which will gradually increase the demand for local services and contribute to the town’s economy. It’s worth noting that the academic year runs from September to May when tourism-dependent businesses have spare capacity.
To help local employers recruit the skilled workforce they need by offering degree courses, vocational training and modern apprenticeships.
To make sure students have a great experience in Oban. The needs of both students and residents will be considered to make sure any growth is planned and sustainable.
As the project develops, we will focus on:
Looking at what we already do and seeing how we can develop new courses based on what local businesses and the local economy needs. This will help us develop the reputation of Oban as a place to study.
Making sure that the growth brings benefits to the town. This will include looking at student accommodation, learning facilities and even what public transport is required. Investment in infrastructure will be developed.
Working with local businesses to see what’s available in town just now and how this could be expanded in the future. This includes social spaces like pubs, restaurants, clubs, live performance venues and sports facilities.
Keeping people in the loop as we promote Oban as a world class place to come and study.
